Tillandsia ionantha is native to Mexico and much of Central America, where it grows as a small, dense rosette rarely more than a few inches tall. Its silvery-green leaves are covered in fine trichomes that give the whole plant a soft, fuzzy appearance, and as the plant approaches bloom the center leaves flush a vivid red or pink, a trait that earned it the common name “blushing bride.” The flowers themselves are small, tubular, and violet, emerging from the colored bracts for a striking two-tone display.
